Read Our Story

We (Bob and Jean-Paul) have been friends since University.

We’ve always talked about owning a business together, but struggled to find a business where we could have a real impact on the client experience. A few years ago, Jean-Paul found an article in a business magazine about a woman who bought a failing laundry in the U.S. and turned it around. We liked the idea, so we spent several months doing research on the coin laundry industry to start our journey.

Our research found that the vast majority of coin laundries were just plain awful. They were dirty, typically in disrepair, and used dated machines with no technology. On top of that, they were not very nice places to be at anytime of the day.

So we asked the question, “why?”

Why are coin laundries all like this? Why does it have to be this way? The answer, we discovered, was that most owners did not care about the service or environment that they provided for their customers. Their approach to service was non-existent.

We decided to change that fundamentally flawed approach to running a business, and set out to address the problem for our customers. We found our current location, and immediately created a plan to upgrade the store to achieve our goal:

“To provide an environment for our customers that is clean, safe, with upgraded machines and premium services that most of all, is welcoming.”

Our mission statement so to speak.

We spent the first year upgrading all aspects of the location and in early 2018 purchased brand new washers to complement our recent dryers. We have cleaned up and automated our services in order to create a better environment for our customers and to upgrade their experience.

We learned on the first day, that it’s all about how you treat people.

Customers at most coin laundries are treated poorly, and we have made it a priority to treat every customer with dignity and respect. We think of our store as an extended part of your home and will continue to make sure that you are always welcome and happy to hang out here.

Thank you for choosing Suds Launderette as a place to spend some time week in and out. We appreciate your continued support.

Our Team

From the very beginning, people would always assume when we were together that we were brothers. Eventually after several minutes of denying it, we would pull out our drivers license to prove them otherwise. They would still end up shaking their heads in disbelief.

We thought of calling the store “Brothers Laundry” but didn’t think that would really be feasible, so we created Suds Launderette as a fun name to start the business. Regardless of being related or not, we consider our customers to be family, but without all the fighting about politics and nonsense!

So we are two guys, doing our best to clean up the west end of Toronto, one dirty bag of laundry at a time. JP’s German mother and Bob’s Yugoslavian mother still can’t believe we own our first Coin Laundromat. Who would have thought that two fraternity brothers from University of Western Ontario would end up trying to make the world a cleaner place.

Our first store is in the books, now onto other locations…
